Madekwe is the daughter of the mixed race family of South London in England. Her father is a Nigerian-Swiss, and her mother is English. She was born on the south London community estate, as a teenager, she 14she enrolled in The Brit School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in acting from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She was on stage in several productions as a student including the role of King Henry V, as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe began her acting career with the movie Storm Damage. Since then, she's appeared as a guest in Teachers, Doctors, Casualty, and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's debut film was the Woody Allen 2007 film Cassandra's Dream. She starred with Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. Her success has led her to be cast in Elisha as a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. She then appeared in six episodes Trexx and Flipside playing the character of Ollie. She played Bambi on the ITV2 series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe made an appearance in the 2008 comedy feature film How to Lose Friends & Affect People. Some of her theatre credits are Little Sweet Thing (by Roy Williams) as well as Flight Path (by David Watson).
Madekwe made her US debut on The Beautiful Life in 2009. The series aired only two episodes on The CW, and was then removed from the air. Ashley Davenport, a character from ABC's Revenge drama, was chosen to play Ashley Davenport. Following her appearance as a regular on the first two seasons, it was announced in May 2013 that Madekwe was set to leave the show after an appearance as a guest in the premiere episode in the season's third. Ashley Leggat, a twice Gemini nominated actress is a member of a big family living in Hamilton, Ontario. Her four older brothers were also in the family including twins Todd & Bram, Brett & Rob. Ashley's brothers were athletic and played baseball in summer and hockey during winters. Ashley was not a walker, but she would dance. When she was two and a half, she was introduced to Baby Ballet. Ashley was enthralled by dance immediately after that. Ashley performed in competitive ballet, tap and jazz in high divisions. Ashley was awarded the top soloist honor at each major dance contest, which included International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, to name just some.
